Why Everyone’s Sick and No One Can Tell Anymore
Recently I was on a red-eye flight from Portland, OR to Minneapolis. I was looking forward to sleeping most of the way. The lady behind me ruined this idea. She began talking to the person next to her about her conditions. She was very specific about these and didn’t finish her narration until the pilot announced we were letting down for landing. I couldn’t believe that one person could have so many maladies. Non-stop hours of them…
I began to think about it and of course realized that we’re oriented towards a sickness care system in his country rather than a true Health Care System. And the official manual that lists the diseases that can afflict the human body is now over 14,000 diseases long.
Included in this doctor’s bible are conditions such as “childbirth”, now classified as an abnormal condition of the human body, and classics such as “failed back surgery”. It seems that having a classified disease or disorder is a chic thing to have, especially if you have several ongoing conditions simultaneously.
The nature of these illnesses has changed since I was a youngster. It used to be that most people had what I call “horizontal diseases”: A person was stricken with a myriad of symptoms that knocked him off of his feet and put him flat on his back in bed or, more commonly, in a hospital (therefore “horizontal”). As a matter of fact, when I was growing up, they couldn’t build hospitals fast enough.
Now the complexion of diseases/disorders has changed. We’re now experiencing “something” daily; we’re all walking around with it. Thus the name “vertical diseases”– you’re upright, mobile and still feeling crummy.
Conditions such as
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- PMS
- Acid Reflux
- Numerous Stress Syndromes
- And more…
are prevalent and are filling up doctor’s waiting rooms across the country.
As a matter of fact, the most common complaint any patient has for their doctor is:
“Doctor, I don’t feel well, I don’t feel myself. I am tired all of the time and I don’t sleep well…”
Modern medicine gets high marks when it comes to repairing the body from accidents, hip replacements and even sometimes treating an infection.
But they get a “D-” when it comes to treating these vertical diseases.
You simply can’t drug any of these problems away.
Why?
First off, many of these conditions do not display abnormal medical tests or x-rays. In fact there are NO tests available that would positively diagnose conditions such as fibromyalgia or chronic tiredness. (Yet the diagnoses continue to be churned out and the prescription drug treatments are at all-time highs.)
MD’s look for pathology, which are abnormal changes detectable in the human body. These usually show up on tests or scans of the body.
Alternative Health doctors such as myself, look for changes in function, which eventually leads to pathology or disease. These functional changes can be minute in nature and no blood test in the world would detect them.
An example would be acid reflux. Over 20 million of you experience this on a daily basis.
Most MD’s have the viewpoint that you’re secreting too much stomach acid so the solution is to shut down stomach acid secretion. Therefore, we’re given the “purple pill”, the “pink stuff” and the antacids that are too numerous to list.
In all of my career, which spans 30 years, I’ve never seen any test that indicates you’re “purple-pill-deficient”.
In fact, acid reflux is NOT DUE TO A LACK OF ANTACIDS IN YOUR BODY OR ACID-PUMP INHIBITORS. Big Pharma, which spends billions of dollars per MONTH, would like you to believe that this is the cause/effect.
Furthermore, most antacids indicate, right on their labels (if you indeed have 2x vision to read the small print), that they should not be used for more than 2 weeks straight. But most people I know ingest these drugs more than they do water…
So, in this instance of acid reflux, what is the real “cause”?
Well, it could be that your body is not producing enough digestive enzymes to break the foods down and it is calling up the “reserves” (your stomach acid) to help the digestive process.
For every 10 years of life after you’re 20 years of age, for every decade, you lose up to 13% of your enzyme production capacity in your body. This is why when you’re let’s say 40 or over, you can’t eat the same foods (and get away with it) as when you’re 20.
Get the point?
So the solution is not to swallow daily, apparently-benign drugs that are actually so powerful they could really mess you up for good, but to simply add some digestive enzymes to your eating routine.
Simple? Effective?
Yes.
The bottom line is that most health conditions are due to a lack of something intended on being in the body or having too much of something that shouldn’t be there in the first place.
And you don’t need a degree in medicine for the solutions to make sense to you. When you get the real data, you should be able to think with it.
