What Could be Causing Unexplained Pain?
Unexplained Pain: how can I explain it?
Well, I can’t, really. But maybe you’ve experienced it before: physical pain not relating to any particular condition or from any particular source you know about, but definitely real enough to make you feel anywhere from slightly hindered to miserable.
Looking into the issue
Dr. Gregory A. Plotnikoff, MD, of the University of Minnesota Medical School, examined this exact phenomenon. He took a cross-section of people from 17 different cultures who were experiencing unexplained musculoskeletal pain and ran a series of tests on them.
Turns out, maybe their pain wasn’t so unexplained after all. Dr. Plotnikoff’s study, published via the Mayo Clinic, concluded that those individuals who were experiencing unexplained pain were all severely deficient in Vitamin D.
Vitamin D-ficiency
We’ve talked about how Vitamin D can help with pain management in the past, but this study stresses it even more. With so many of us working desk jobs, staying at home, or living in a true winter climate, we aren’t getting enough sun exposure to meet our Vitamin D quotas. Don’t let yourself be affected insidiously by this: Find a good supplement and make sure you’re getting at least 5,000 IU a day.
